Pillnitz Palace and Park
Castle Pillnitz results, like many other things in Saxony, from a mood of Augustus the Strong. He ordered to build an Indian castle in Pillnitz where his mistress Countess Cosel lived. Since 1720 Poeppelmann and later Longuelune built the two, almost identical, water and mountain pavilion. The castle ground is around 28 hectare and has been a “playground” for the Saxon court. Along the park you will find a great botanic variety and the rarely and over 200-year-old Japanese camellia.

This magnificent church was re-built in the centre of the Old Town. A third of the used stones are origins which is discernible by the dark stains. The 130-million Euro expensive reconstruction was mostly financed by donation. Today the famous landmark of Dresden dominates the skyline of the city.
